Launched boat at 5:30, had 500' trotline and 20 traps set by 6:30. Spots in shallower water already taken so I tried deep(15ft) to try and guage . Pulled 7 huge crabs in on first run. People in shallow(8-10 ft.) not doing well.  Tried my trot line and nothing.  Tried traps and 3 nice ones.  tried trot line and nothing.  Trot line in same spot as last week which did produce doz. and a half. This week it's a dud. The crabs then slowed. Was hit and miss the rest of the day. Finally met up with "Rock Run Crabber" Nice to put a face to someone I've been in contact with for 2 seasons. He finally got his first 9" crab.  I ended up with a little les than 3/4 bu. (28 crabs) RRC  got over 3/4 bu. They weren't as big this week as last week but still huge. Last week only had 1 crab under 7" last week. This week 6. Threw back over 1/2 doz legal but under 6". Would of been afraid to put them in same basket as the mumbos. throw a 6" crab in and come out with two,  3" crabs.

Well, that's my report. Hope it picks up soon. Picture of RRC"s first (' and a picture of RRC(left) and PJ

Nice catch guys, looks like the time has come for the chester, where did you launch from and whereabouts did you go?  My dad wants to crab the chester, but I haven't had the chance to go yet.  Rolph's rents pontoon boats, is that a good place to go out of?

My family and I went out of Rolph's this morning.  Went about 1/4 mile past Southeast creek.  A slow pick.  Got a little over a half-bushel in 6 hours (in at 6:30 am out by 12:30 pm).  Mostly big crabs with a few barely legals thrown in.   Overall a good day to be on the water, it's a lot cooler than the land.

Thanks for the report. I'm glad I found this site. Bred and born in Cliff City. Coming back in middle of August to get some of what you guys call mumbos. I like that. Never thought I'd be chattin with folks from Jersey, Delaware and Pa but what the heck I'm a foreigner now too. Please leave some of those Chester river crabs for me. devil devil devil

Nice hunting with you also. Probably won't make it this wknd. Have things to catch up with at home. Been fishing or crabbing 6 of the last 7 weekends. Depending on the weather, will probably go out the 12 of aug. Maybe see you then.
