Hey Guys and Gals, I just wanted to stop in and say hello! I look forward to learning a lot from the crabbing community, it seems everyone here is very nice and has a great sense of humor and most importantly here to to have fun and learn. I'm a complete newb, save for the few times my dad took me to crabbing with handlines in near Myrtle years and years ago, so any input is appreciated. Kevin

Hey guys, I am new to this board and very inexperienced in crabbing, but found this site while looking for crabbing info for my upcoming vacation to the OBX. I have already found a lot of great info. The last time I crabbed was by handlining in VA as a kid 15+ years ago. I am hoping to catch some when I am in the Carova area during the first week of Oct. Thanks for the the info posted on this board.

Hey Matt, A big welcome to ya. Saw your name and thought another drummer. I was in band, marching band, etc in school. Haven't had a pair of sticks in my hands in years. Also from the great state of Pa. That's another plus in my book. Check the NC boards for some good info on where to go when you're on vacation. Chef Lar

Chef Lar, Thanks. Yup, I'm into drumming, both the instrument and the fishing. Two of my favorite things actually, hence the name. I have already spent some time checking out the NC board. Lot of good info there.

Hello, my name is Will(newbie). I remember wading around the banana river, FL. when we lived in Orlando just filling our buckets with blue crabs by just simply scooping them up with a net while they lay in the grassbeds when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Then we started having family weekends fishing and hand lining crabs using chicken necks that was also successful. Now at age 30 and live in Cocoa Beach as a part time flats fishing guide of our 3 lagoons, I can't even find a crab to save my life! I tried to hand line for a while and even left a trap overnight at one of my old hotspots the other day and nothing! Are there even any more crabs in the Banana or Indian rivers? I'm going to scope around the next few days and will post a report. I usually crab from land or bridges but I might have to use my boat and set some pots somewhere. Anyone from the Cocoa Beach area having any luck?
-Will

I'm skimmed this site in the past looking for advice and finally decided to take the plunge. So here I am. I've been a chicken necker since I could walk, mostly the South River. I live on the Severn now and finally have a small jon boat, in which I plan to start doing traps this coming season on the river. Glad to be here.

Yes J. we are alive and kicking. There's plenty of info here about crabbing and a whole host of other topics. Take time to look around, use the search feature at the top right, and also click on the crab at the bottom center of the page for lots of useful info. Again, welcome aboard. Chef Lar

never mind! now that i have posted i see more recent posts... so anyways growing up in Va beach, after high school i jumped right in to commercial crabbing. the money was too good and i was too stupid and skiped past further education. i tried college for awhile. But if anyone has been in the business, the hours are demanding. living by the schedule of the tide i never had time for anything else. about a year ago my girl and I moved to nor cal for her job. once again her job has relocated her again. now in annapolis, MD. i had a job at best buy, but they could only relocate me so many times. so now i am in a new town with NO JOB! A good portion of my life was dedicated to commercial crabbing. so i know all the ins and outs.. we use to call it speed crabbing. we could crab 800+ crab pots faster than any other boat on the water... Crabbing is def not about that but i guess it was our competitive nature.. anyways i have the experience i just have no idea if commercial crabbing goes on in my area. i live 2 feet from the water in downtown annapolis, but all i see is sail boats. i know the season is not in. just wondering if anybody has any idea about the area. PLEASE HELP ME!
