i went out today and chicken necked. i had 9 lines going and i didn't catch anything (well something) i was relaxing most of the time in between. but i noticed the further line would get tight but nothing was ever on it. and another line was so tight i thought i could a 15inch crab! i had too really pull it was actually half of a fishing pole but no crabs today... could anyone explain why my line kept going out but nothing was ever on it?

Was the tide moving if so that could cause your bait to move. Or it could be eels or a cat

Who knows what EVIL lurks beyond the murky surface - was the neck chewed, then something was eating it - if the neck was not chewed, was grass on the line then most likely the water was washing it - was there paint and abrasion on the line, more then likely it was a submarine.
