Today was a beautiful day to be on the water.  Warm, no rain, calm...but no crabs.  Crabbed 30 traps in Thompson's Creek and then moved around the corner to Crab Alley.  After 3 hours and allot of pulling, only 5 crabs.  Several crabbers out but no one was catching any either.  Leaves me very concerned over how this season will be.   Huh

Chris don't worry to much they will be there in a few weeks. Just give them time to make it up the bay. Crabguy and Howard are doing very well for them selves and it will pick up for the rest of us as well. Just give it a little more time. But I can't wait so me and my friend are going to give it another try to see if we can't catch some of those tasty crabs. Wink Just got back from a round of golf and I could use a cold beer and a dozen steamed crabs  Cool that would be really nice. Even though it is 12:30 in the morning it would still be fine with me.

???Could someone give me a fix on Thompsons Creek ? I have tried WYe Mills but have very little knowledge of other places to crab. Also does the ramp pass from Wye Area Cover the Crab Alley and THompsans creek areas or is a diffrent ramp sticker required. Thanks for any help

Out to crab alley yesterday and got a half bushel.  Crabs didn't start hitting until about 10am.  I think the tide started coming in about that time so that may be what triggered them.  I did talk to a few people who were out at sun up and left with nothing.  My guess is that the tide is really a factor when using traps.

Most crabs were in about 4' of water.  Threw three back and the rest were 6-8".  At least two others were out and they got about a half bushel each.  One got a 9" monster, the biggest I've seen.  He got that one in 11' of water out in crab alley bay.

I will try to post a picture.  I have three photos but the only one under 100kb is the one I'll post.  Can someone tell me how to reduce the size of a photo so I can post the other pics?

Here is a 7.5" one from Crab Alley yesterday.  It is actually the bluest crab I've ever seen.  A guy out on the water called it a Channel Crab.  Never heard of it but it was tasty.

Went out again today to Crab Alley.  When does this crabbing thing become an obsession?

Anyway, just over three hours of pulling traps (12:20 - 3:30) and came home with just under a bushel.  Crabs were very shallow, same as on Tuesday.  3-4 feet of water.  Usually I can keep count of how many I catch per run but not today, that is a good thing.  30 traps used and did not wait between checking.  Caught 95% right in front of Crab Alley Marina.

Steaming them up right now.  Took some pics, will post tomorrow.

Right you are, guys -- very shallow water, where it's warming up the fastest.  And as it continues to warm, they'll move a bit deeper.  Almost two bushels?! Way to go hockeycrabguy!  I can feel the fever building.  I'm ready to go this weekend, with an alternate weather plan of either Friday or Monday off work, if necessary.  Good luck, guys!  Grin Grin Grin

Now that's what I'm talking bout guys!!! Grin

I knew them critters were heading up into the Eatern Bay area sooon and it looks like they have arrived!  This hot humid air ( crabber's delight) sure ain't hurint none either.

I'm heading out early sometime next week and will probably do Crab Alley, where I have a very favorite spot that has never done me wrong.   Wink

Looks like a little more favorable action at the Wye too and this is just about the week when things start to happen there.  Let's keep praying for the warm, humid weather to spark a crab bonanza!! Cheesy

Take care, and be safe out there!

Went out yesterday in the rain.  Crabbed just out from the marina.  Got 2.5 dozen in 4 hours.  Crabbed incoming tide in the evening.  Guys were doing better out in Crab Alley Bay.

I went out on the Eastern Bay on July 1 not knowing what to expect since it was my first trip of the year. The weather was good with a light Northeast wind. I laid my 1000 ft trotline in about 4-6 ft of water which is my usual spot this early in the season. To my surprise, the crabs were all over the line. My buddy and I were able to get a bushel after 6 runs down the line averaging about 13 crabs per run. We were able to pick up another 1/2 bushel in the next 5 runs when the crabs suddenly dropped off, so we scooted with our bushel and a half and were back at the launch before 9:30. We didn't have to put the stick on any of the crabs that were mainly 6 1/2 to 7 inchers with a couple of 8's thrown in there including 3 doublers. A GREAT TRIP! I'll be out there again in two weeks, weather permitting. Keep pluggin' away at 'em guys cause the crabs are definitely in the shallows.

Was planning on crabbing tommarrow (friday) but looks like the wind will be a little to much. I've been out 3 times this year and have yet to break 2 dozen. Mostly been heading out at Thompsons creek but I just havn't seen much this year so far. Has anyone had any luck lately in Thompsons? good lucjk all. I'll post my results after I head out again next monday or tuesday.

Well:
I have not been out in two weeks plus and going to hope for tomorrow.  It will probably be Carb Alley and perhaps the Wye.  Sounds like not too much improvement from the last time.

I did like "Hunter's" 3/4 big guys at the Wye, but don't know where he was at.  Hopefully not at the mouth.

Oh well...if I go, I will post my account of the trip in a couple of days.

Take care and be safe out there.

Howard, I was on the Wye Saturday. Didn't fair as well as others because of the traveling (rented skiff) and location (everybody had the spots). I went to the Lighthouse to get away from everyone (which was too far) and then started running low on gas after a couple of runs on my traps. There were a few guys doing very well during the run ,than by 10:30 it died. One guy had 1 1/2 bushels in about 4 1/2 hours of work, nice 7 to 7.5 Jimmies. Roughly 20 minutes for my little rental, you can figure it out. There not that far away.

As long as it stays hot and little rain they should be down river in a week or two.

By the way nice plaque.
