Out of business peeler crabs at Englehard NC.

I just got back from a trip through the eastern North Carlina main land shoreline.
At Englehard NC i stumbled into an out of business soft crab set up. There were six tables, each table side holding eleven plastic tubs. So that is 22 tubs per table or 132 tubs total. Each tub was divided into thirds or 396 total stations. Looks like it was quite the set up in its day!

That indeed looks like a major set-up there. How long does it look like its been since they were operational? Also, any indication as to why it stopped operating?

I admit I know absolutely zip, nada, nuttin' about shedding operations. Dogs shedding and cats shedding, I know too much about!Closest I ever got was when we used to go walking the flats off Eastern Neck Island, my Mother-in-law would keep any soft crabs we caught in one basket in an inner tube and any busters in another.
Looking at these pictures I can't figure out how to you get to the middle tanks? Don't the soft crabs need to be taken out of the water pdq so they don't harden up?

Soon enough I might make it to knowing just a little.

Check the electric poles...
I guess they could be attached to the floats and not buried... Interesting...

I don't have any answers to the questions. There was no one around to talk to. I would say it's been out of operation for maybe 3-5 years? I also think the tables were pushed together to take up less room. You certainly can't service the individual stations the way it is now! Maybe they think they might start up again and didn't want to destroy everything?
If anyone gets to the area it's in Englehard NC near the fish camp.
While talking with the crab supply guy he said that no one uses a trot line in the area; everyone uses the commercial style traps.

I am thinking this is down the little path to Big Trout Marina...the place is between Willams Sfd and the Marina. It's been like that I think for 2 years or more. Jennettes SFD right on Hwy264 in Englehard(heading to OBX) I think is or was for sale as well, another shedding operation.

No one really did or does much trotlining in that area, and very people do it PERIOD any more. Last year the changed laws about trotlining etc

BRIAN, I think it's Phillip Carawan's set up.. He set it all up and after a couple years changed his mind about shedding there,,
