hello all,
Jimmy here, just wanted to know if you, or I rather, could drive along the colonial pkwy in Williamsburg, and if I saw a spot that looked good I could just pull off the road and drop a line in?

I've been reading the forum and got a lot of info and really enjoy this site, thank you for any help.

If I catch some big' uns, I'll definitely update everyone on my success or lack there of.

Gonna give ya a quick over view here. The parkway runs along the York river. The comms are doing well there. Unfortunately, the river tends to be shallow along the banks in the area you are asking about. York River State park pier is only about 6' deep on a good tide. Gloucester point (at near the end of the parkway) is only about 12' deep on a good tide. There are plenty of places to pull off and do some fishing\crabbing. I have traveled this road many times. Lots of boaters wading in the shallows. But by all means give it a try and let us know how you do.

Later in the season will probably be a better bet when they get brave and move into the shallows. I have talked to a lot of people who say that the shores of the York are a good place to crab. Just late in the season.

Good Luck

Thank you crabby,
I just wanted to know a good place where I could take my family to catch some crabs that wasnt going to be to "dedicated". My wife doesn't like to fish(which, of course, I love to do) but she likes to go crabbing. Hopefully my wife, our 3 daughters and myself will have a blast.

She also wanted to be near a restroom!

Thanks again for your help and I will post the results of the trip as soon as we return!

1st post!

Just came back from a day on the Colonial Parkway....   alot of action using Turkey Wings (cheap and thought would give them a try), unfortunately most of what I did catch was way too small, probably a couple dozen went back into the water for my next trip!  Only got 5 keepers and just pulled them off the stove a few minutes ago...
