I asked...... I have never seen a red sign in a trap or on a line eating.
flip them over and then I can tell you. Other then that, I'm not guessing.

They are females...Another product of a rookie trap puller and me not paying attention. It got pretty crazy dumping crabs there for awhile. They were hanging on tight...I never saw them until I got home and sorted through the baskets. But knew what they were right away..Had a full softy first year and didnt see that until we found it crushed in the bottom of the basket..That was at the gp and never got another one since...alot of doublers before but they all went back.....( these did not )..only 3 females kept in a lifetime of crabbing...all in 1 trip..I feel bad.
.. If they dont sluff.stay alive and dont die...It gives me a good reason to head down again sat or sunday to put them back...or at least exchange them for some big jimmies..
Notice how I tucked the claws in...lmfao

In my experience (and not saying it doesn't happen) true peelers are not caught by eating. They are usually females that are being cradled in traps or on lines. I have seen very few caught on my lines that are true red sign. I have caught a few that are just turning pink but not red hot. The other way I have seen them are in peeler pots.

If you would have waited about 4 hours after it shedded it would be much larger, and still plenty soft enough to eat.. it looks like you took it out right after it shedded..Hope it taste good...

Yeah I thought it might have been dead so I pulled the claws from the old shell and cleaned her up...Other one is really lively but no shed in sight so far.

Where'd you come up with 4? I must have missed 2 in your first post. Or are you "accidently" keeping rank peelers now from doublers ?
