I usally crab the queesn/nassau county area......i have heard of decent crabing out in Patchough but know zero about anything more east of that. We don't know how far east you mean ? but thats the best i can do......Patchough has to be a good 25 miles east of the nassau/suffolk line.......albiet i know you could STILL be 50 miles EAST of that.

Do a search on Silly Lily Fishing Marina, there in East Moriches if your looking for a boat rental.
You want to go towards the Forge River. They use to have maps on their website. Long time though, hope that helps.

I registered to answer you, lol.
Where out east do you want to go? Moriches area good? I have some spots over here that we have pulled up 6"+ Jimmies in the hundreds over the past few weeks.
Good Luck out there,
-Danny

Hi HIGHCALIBER,
Thanks for registering to answer my question!
I live in Southampton and the crabbing here is pretty dead, everywhere we usually go there aren't any crabs. I don't know if its the water or its just been over fished? We would love to know where in Moriches you've been catching them. We don't have a boat so it would have to be off shore/dock. If you can tell us spots to go and how to get there that would be amazing!
Thanks again!

One of my favorite spots...the one I spoke of above is located at
Local Name: Union Ave
Latitude: 40.78478
Longitude: -72.79751
It is a great spot that usually starts in May and goes until the drinks go slushy in November.
I buy chicken drumsticks when on sale at the local food market for fifty cents a pound.
I usually only throw 4-6 lines in, not to hog the dock.
On Saturday four of us pulled up and kept over 160 keepers out of 200+ captives.
After the fiasco of cleaning and eating all of them over the past few days...we got a bit more selective.
We only keep 6"+ Jimmies, nothing less or it gets released.
I wish you luck and hope to see you there.
-Danny
P.S. There are gigantic females there but we always throw them back, its Crab Karma.

Thank you!!
We will try that spot and, like you, we don't take the females when crabs are plentiful. We usually crab out of Mecox, but there doesn't seem to be any crabs this summer. Very, very weedy though. Don't know if it was fished out by people without licenses taking females with eggs or if something is going on with the brown tide. If anyone has any information, please let us know.

Hey Danny,
Tried getting directions on Mapquest, but couldn't locate a definite spot, and we are not familiar with the area. Can you possibly give us directions from 27 or Montauk Highway?
Thanks in advance.

No Problem
From Sunrise Highway:
Get off at exit 60 toward Railroad Ave (Center Moriches/Manorville),
Take Sunrise Service Rd to the first stop lamp, turn left at Railroad Ave
Go about 1.5 miles to Main St. then take a right,
Go a quarter mile and take a left at Union Avenue,
Follow Union Ave to the end (approx. 1.25 miles) and there you go.
Good Luck!
