So i made my toppless traps and have been putting them to good use..went out today and slayed 5 or 6 dozen in two hours..oh how sweet it is  |

I'm torn on the topless traps..I like them because they stack up so nicely, but on the other hand, I just bought five of them two weeks ago and they don't CLOSE all the way and I've lost a few...I saw them slip right through the openings...going to have to figure out how to close up those gaps.

Chesapeake Outdoors..right by my house. I'm pretty pissed...but I think I can fix them. I have to bend them into shape! I don't like spending my hard earned money on traps that don't close correctly!

First, I am not saying that it was all little crabs. I am just making a observation. There are more small crabs than I have ever seen down here. One of my pots had at least 2-3 dozen crabs in it yesterday but not one was a keeper (peeler). The hard crab pots (big mesh) with the new bigger culling rings are picked clean of bait it less than 24 hours. Not even bones are left. The big culling rings are letting everything less than 5 to 5 1/4 inches escape. Was just talking to the Comm.s at my pier, they said the same thing about undersized crabs. They also say that they don't expect these little crabs to shed anymore this year.  If thats so, there is gonna be one L of a peeler run next May. |

i have 7 traps that i made myself..im crabbing rec style in a spot in the river by my house..its loaded.no commercial pots are allowed back there.the crabs back there are pretty [dang] big! all were 5 or better! i dont keep small crabs or females!i will even dump out someones bucket if they have it full of 2 inch males..what a waist..i will take some pics and post them next time.just gotta figure out how to do it.im not cpu savy! |
