ALL females carried by the males are indeed, peelers. The degree of "ripeness" can cover the whole scale from green to busting.
Incidently, recs CANNOT possess female peelers - only female soft crabs.

I caught 2 soft crabs trotlining Sunday, but at least 90% of doublers will be peelers, which as mentioned above, are illegal for a rec to keep.

The Jimmy might hold onto them a couple of days as peelers, depending on how far along they are, but he'll only hold onto them for a couple hours after they shed, so your odds aren't too good.

When you say the doubler's are peelers you mean the female is the peeler or both?

I have always just thrown the ladies back

The Sally is the "peeler".  Not both.
