We got our 30 traps in beginning at 6:16 AM.  Usual good spot.  Depth (high tide) 8 feet.  Water temp only 66 degrees!

First run - one crab.
Second run - two crabs.
Third run - eight crabs.

After that, 2-3 per run.  Took us until low tide (11:20 AM) to get 42 crabs.

Nice crabs, but a lot of work this time out.  Wonder if the heavy rain had an impact?

We were out too.  Yes, the rain brought in a ton of pollutants and fresh water pushing the crabs way out.  It was very slow, but the crabs were decent size.  Only had a couple throwbacks, including 4 or 5 HUGE females.  But a beautiful day, and we caught enough for dinner.  Smiley

yeah cliff,

I was out there Monday also.. slow, but steady.. had to work for em.. 48 crabs..... heavy 3/4 basket.. but htey wer fairly dark and real nice size.  only 2 doublers, no other females.. maybe 10 catfish.... and maybe 8 undersize crabs.....  but it was a long day.. yes I think the cool weather and rain messing it up.. had 66 degrees out toward maxwells....... finally found some 71-72 degree water and did much better there.... but still think it is starting to wind down.

Yeh, and when the catfish take the bait, there's nothing left in the traps for the crabs!

My neighbor came back in this afternoon (Friday) with three crabs caught on three runs.  Every time he made a run, the bait was gone from his traps!

Funny how the cats just showed up in the past week.  Wonder where they vacationed in the summer?

How any crabs are there is amazing to me.Between the tens of thousands of pots that they have to make their way through and not to mention the thousands of trot lines and traps it truly astounds me any make it.

I'm baiting up right now with zip-ties.  Have to settle for the GP tomorrow instead of the Wye since the wife has gone past her due date.  Gonna try out the new trotline system.  Bmail by 6 am if anyone wants to tag along who isn't going to the big bash!  Should be a nice day on the water.  Wink

Man! and your wife still lets you crab?

When my wife was prego last year, I didn't want to chance it on being "not there for her" liked 6 weeks before the due date and then even a month afterward.

You're so lucky! Cool

The catfish sure are crazy they been that way for almost three months now. I have switched from bait springs to string to zip ties and they are still stealing. I finally got right, I tied snoods to my traps works great.
