Crab'n is a way of life....

WWW
« on: October 01, 2009, 01:36:20 PM »

This morning when I left the dock the air temp was 48 and the water surface temp was 62.  It won't be long now and we will be hearing the Fat Lady sing...  Got a couple peelers today but my floats are turned off and the peeler pots are done for this season.  Waters to cold in the floats for the crabs to shed.

Jack, yeah the water's coolin off quickly but crabs still around.  Fish are definitely moving in around here.  Started seeing little menhaden popping out of the water to avoid getting eaten while running for crabs today.  Good times.  Probably the best two weeks of the year coming up in terms of getting good eats from the river here.  Get a few crabs in the morning, go liveline some white perch in the evening, and then it's crab imperial on a rockfish filet time.  BIG TIME!  I remember some years cooking it up on top of the woodstove.  First couple fires of the year and the best food you can get.  Enjoy it with a cold beer!   Wink

quickly... I was halfway down the South side of the Wye on Sun.
and the surface was still 70.5deg... But I agree... It's only a matter
of time.... Enjoy it while we can right!  Those rock look fantastic....

Jack, I just got to chincoteague this evening, renting a beautiful house with a nice dock/pier, threw three comm pots in ( i am living in maryland and comm pots are diff from the handlines rec pots i use)  two small crabs in about an hour (YEA, they are still here)  dad is coming down monday night, wants to crab and fish, i can put him on the crab but where are you gettting the rocks if you dont mind me asking, we are on main street and i have my little boat so we are going to try and get some nice crabs and fish for a family eatin.  Wife has been sick for so long but she is here and if she can get out at low tide gonna clam a bit and hopefully catch a fish or two.  We are so excited, I am so excited, this is so exciting, the island is full of people and I just cant get over it.  Sheesh, can life be any better  !!!   Maybe do a little surf fishign but wife wants on the boat  (yes it leaks like crazy but the bilge is running strong so off we go).  Golly, I AM HERE IN OCTOBER, YES YES YES, I wont sleep tonight or tomorrow or the next day, 6 or 7 days nonstop, fishing crabbing during the day and running my little hand lines off the pier all night.  I dont care if nothing shows up anywhere except that we catch something for dad and the wife, dang, dang, dang, this is killing me.  Want to write more but the tide is coming in and I am going to take the dogs for a walk and go check the pots again !!!!   Best of to all of you.  More to follow.
