We go to Everglades City several times a year just to sit on the docks and eat Stone Crab Claws dipped in a nice Mustard sauce with Conch Chowder. Fresh Grouper and Conch comes in those docks also. Great Conch Fritters and Fried Grouper.
I didnt know way up north in Azello was Stone Crab turf. Nice rig.

I'll try, traps are 14 1/2 " sq. by 12" height. Lid with funnel is on top and aprox. 50 lbs concrete for bottom. Traps are made of wood or plastic. Most of us are replacing our wood with plastic.

Thinking about it more; They prefer dark "nooks" and are found in deep water ?

Wire pots work. problem is turtles, inshore not to bad, offshore, loggerheads completly destroy wire traps( and some wood & plastic, though not as bad.) Also crabs tend to cling to wire, hard to shake out. Regular stone crab traps open lid and start pulling crabs out, much faster. We stone crab in west central Fl. in depths from 6' to 55' depending on water temp.,time of year, octopus chasing crabs, you never know. Stone crabs usually like hard bottom as long as the water is warm. As the water cools they go to mud to bury up after fronts. They also bury up to escape predators(octopus). We fish deeper water at start of season and move into shallower water in winter because shallow water warms up faster promting crabs to feed. The best time to bait traps is on a front, barometric pressure drops along with strong SW to NW winds stir the bottom up causing water to mud up. Stone crabs feed heavily during these times, and yes they do like to hide.

No problem. Even though I also blue crab commercially, I had no idea of trotlines and such. I really enjoy this forum. Cool site.
