Has anyone used capt. Bruce's  "BIG GUN" traps ?  I'm thinking of buying a few and was wondering how well they worked. Thanks in advance.

I got 5 of em.  they are a lot harder to pull, but if you use 28 or so traps normal size and you tend to find hot spots in you strings of traps.. I then placed the 2 big guns in those spots that were most productive.  they seem to work best sept and oct ... I use two in my rig of 28 normal traps and 2 big guns...I caught at least 1 crab in both every run last trip 10/13 and had 2 times I had double large jimmies and one pull yeild 3 crabs.. a 6 inch, and two 7 plus.... I rigged em with 6 small peices of neck.. I use big neck pieces in them early and didn't do much.. went to 6 small peice of neck and did much better.  and that was my 4 last trips they did best....but you will feel it when you pull em.. they are like pulling up 2-3 normal traps at once.... like most anything.. everything has a time and place.....I still prefer to use the normal 10x10 traps for everyday use and then add 2 of these in the mix... manly in the hot spots or late season...I don't think I could hang in there pulling 30 of these after 10 runs = 300 pulls  you would be worn out and your hands would be tore up... just a lot of pulling resistance due the footprint / size.  You can always try 1 or 2 and test em out yourself

I can't find this anywhere on the net.But that doesn't mean I don't believe yeti,Sasquatch, bigfoot etc exist.People should really do some research into it before they disregard all of the people of various interest and degrees.

Back on topic... I run 6 of em every time.  I find them no heavier than the rest of my gear.  Bigger line offsets the wear on your hands.  Little #4 locktite on smaller gear wears my hands more than the #5 on the big guns.  It's definitely more productive and worth it to run em.  I had 2 and three very often in a trap and felt it would not have been so in the 10 or 12 inch box traps or topless.  I'm an advocate.  It's an expensive hobby.  I didn't lose any of mine this year but I will cry if and when I do lose one.

personally I did not go with the springs and left them out.  I like springs and all fine but I do a little something different that I'm used to and goes a lil better for where I'm at etc...  I put three baits in each one.  One in the center and one a couple inches in from each of the doors at the long ends.  Three crab in a trap best like dog said.  When you got a piece of a line that's hot, those traps will tear em' up IMHO...  get over the cost and the space they use and you gotta agree they are very nice to have... pulling is effortless, I can tell if it's no crab or one or two before I even see the trap.  Once the doors are shut n your hauling fast, it's all good  Wink
