Started crabbing this morning at 7:30am. crabbed about 200 yards off the east side from the Oceanic Bridge. caught 70 large males 6 to 71/2" threw back a few females and spider crabs. Stayed in one spot and I came back at 12:00pm. It was none stop. Don't give up yet.

Nice catch Luke, I crab the rivers frequently. Quick question. Were you crabbing from an anchored boat or jugging? Handlines or traps? Any info is appreciated. Great to hear that the big males are in. Crabbing has lasted in previous years as late as Thanksgiving. Years ago my brother and I would rent from Chris's Landing in Sea Bright and nail those big males. Were they real blue in color? Those big boys come in from the ocean to bed down. We called them sea run crabs. Can't wait to get out there.

I crabbed with 6 box traps didn't have time for drop lines, stayed anchored in one spot at the mouth of that open cove area it was none stop some times two or three big ones in a trap I could not believe how fast I was catching them. I caught the start of the incomimg tide. They probably were comming in from the ocean because their shells that light colored blue and some crabs had not to much meat in them. Yes I still remember those good old days at Chris's Landing I wish it was still there. Good Luck

Thanks Luke. I will be in New Orleans visiting my brother this weekend. Will be out there next week. By the way how were the spider crabs and the females. Last time out in the SHrewsbury River. They were awful. At times the whole trap would be filled with spiders and females.

The Spider Crabs were not that bad the most I had in one trap was 3 and they were small, but most of the time I didn't catch any.

Hey guys. Are there any docks or bulkheads to crab off of by the Oceanic bridge? I do not have a boat.
