Rocky Point Oct. 25

We'll after seeing the reports that there were still crabs to be caught at Rocky Point, I decided to give it a shot this morning. I ran 1000' of trotline from 9'-13' and ended up with 2/3 of a bushel. The water temp was 57 degrees and the best crabbing came from the deeper section of the line. Crabbing started off fast with the 1st run yielding a dozen keepers but then it feel off from there. Low tide was around 8:45 and after that point it was only 2-3 crabs per run. No huge crabs. All ranged from 5 1/2 - 7 1/2" but they were all rusty and heavy. Really surprised by the number of small crabs still around, probably 1 keeper for every 2-3 throw backs. Looks good for the future. Maybe I'll have to give it one more try.

Thanks for the report derekd. You confirmed my suspicions. We have been catching rockfish in that area by bottom fishing. If you are not fishing when the fish come through and your bait soaks for a while it comes in chewed up. I suspected crabs were still in that area pretty thick.

Whoo, 7 hours for a 3/4 basket. That's a grind. Way to stick it out. Hope they were tasty.
