Crab Pots

Hello everyone! I am somewhat familiar with crabbing and have done a small amount of it. But I would like a little help in better understanding a crab pot and thought I would ask the "true" crabbers. From what I have read and understand a commercial crab pot is a 2 ft square cube with slits along the bottom side for and crabs to enter and a bait cup in the middle. Then there is an upside down V above it, which I believe, leads to what is called the parlor. When the crab realizes it can't find its way out its instinct is to swim up in which time it swims through slits in the upside down V only to become trapped in the V. I am thinking of building a few crab pots just for the fun of it and would like to get some input on how big to make the entrance slits, parlor slits, how to construct it so crabs can be retrieved once in the parlor, and most importantly, what kind of wire to use. I have heard that commercial crab pots are made from a wire, which closely resembles chicken wire, but it is actually made specifically for crab pots. All information would be greatly appreciated!
