Capt, Made my last trip out on Election Day. Started at my usual spot in the Shrewsbury River. Water was down to 53 degrees. There was another guy out there jugging. I crab the old way anchored withe traps and droplines. Started at 800 AM and never saw the tide so high at the ramp. Caught a quick dozen but then the spider crab invasion started. There were times when the trap was full of them and they were hanging on the outside. Counted 13 in 1 trap in and out. The blue crabs couldnt have a chance to get in. I left but warned the jugger to move, Decided to take the ride over to the Navesink near the Oceanic Bridge. Now the tide was dead high and my depth recorder showed 12 feet where it usually is a lot less. The river was spilling into the streets of Sea Bright. Very few spiders crabs here. Caight another dozen nice males here but as the tide ebbed the crabbing stopped. Had enough to last me through the World Series. Love watching the games with a bunch and a few brews. Overall not a bad year not great but pretty good. At times in July the crabs were huge and my best day was a full bushel with only 65 crabs to the bushel. Average catch was 4 dozen in 10 trips. Crabbed Barnegat Bay once and had about a half bushel but their size is not their. Time to winterize the boat and store it away until next May. Maybe see you out there next year

I was out in the Navesink last Saturday, the 31st and did okay, not great.  The bite was pretty good early in the morning but slowed down dramatically by mid/late morning.  Wound up with 27 large males which was just a little under a half bushel.  Water temperature was still 55, as it had been the previous week so I'm not sure why the action was so much slower.  The only difference was that it was outgoing water as opposed to incoming the previous week.  Might give it another shot tomorrow for a few hours.

Thanks guys.  May try to barrow a boat and head down the Navesink.

The full moon 11/3 was the flood tides.  Remember full and new moons +/1- 2 days they run real high and real low. The currents in Cheesequake will bury jugs on those days making it very difficult to find.  It rips because so much tidal water is moving.  Naveink has a 5 foot drop normally.

The spiders run off blue crabs. I remember I had two Maryland traps set.  One was filled with blue claws. The other only had one spider carb and NOTHING else.   I really believe they scare away blue claws.

I'd take a few dozen.  And would have loved them and three or four Coor lights to watch the Series.  YEA YANKEES!
