DH and I just returned from five days in Sargent. Set out three traps off the dock on the ICW, across from the public boat ramp. From Thursday morning to Sunday, I had a total of eight crabs, six females without eggs, one with eggs, and a huge male that was almost dead. But, the biggest surprise was about three dozen hermit crabs were in the traps. This was a first for anyplace I have ever set out the crab traps. Depending on where I threw the traps, I would get two dozen in one trap and one dozen in another trap. One trap consistently did not have any hermit crabs in it, as I threw it a good 20 feet from the others. Disappointed I didn't have keeper blues, I threw them all back, hoping the next time I'll have more males that will be ready for the boiling pot.
