You are thinking YEA RIGHT!!! Nope I have dont it for years. My parents have a house on the water and I used to pull up the crab pot and take out two or three and bring them up to the house. I cant remember the amount of time but I think it was around 5 minutes for two crabs. PETA members stop reading here........

The crabs natrally are full of water and they steam from the inside. Its not for the faint of heart however. Put a paper towel over the crab and they will move around for the first two minutes. Then they will slow down and their back fins start to twitch then POW!!!! A loud popping sound. About a minute later twalla!! The legs are no good because they get over cooked but they are excelent! They dont get as red as steamed ones but try it and you will see what I am talking about, its very good.

You could at least ice pick it or place them in the freezer to neutralize em.  Angry  Let me put you in the nuke and watch your eye balls pop from their sockets.  And yes, I am a member of P.E.T.A. (People Eating The Animals)  Grin

The reason I mentioen that its not for the faint of heart is that if kids or someone who would be startled by this might need to be forewarned. It is a loud pop and as you know a microwave has see through glass and its lighted for everyone to see unlike a crab pot. Dont think the steamer is any better less the popping, it takes much longer for the crabs to die in there.

No one puts chickens in the freezer to calm them down or cows, I figure if you were PETA member you would only be reading this to expose the genocide of the animals by other animals. Foooie pass the veil, pull up a chair and lets microwave some crabs.

I knock mine out in ice water before steaming.  They don't loose any claws or legs and they aren't making a ruckus in the pot.
