I decided to take a day off on Tuesday with the prediction of some gloomy weather later this week and once again I had a fabulous day of crabbing.  Took my time getting down there with a 0645 sunrise, but luckily got a spot to park my truck and rig up front and was heading out to my new spot around 0650.  Well wouldn't you know it there was someone already there in my new spot, so I turned around and went back to my other favorite old spot and knocked them dead again.

I didn't like all the big females (I kid you not I threw back about a bushel of those ladies and on one run alone had something like 10 of those red clawed babes) but in between was super and I got a solid bushel of big jimmies, some so dark you could barely tell they were white underneath.  Heavy and fat...yea baby!

The conditions were as such...overcast most of the morning, the tide was going out the entire time I was there, the water was quite calm until about 11:00 and I was probably in about 5-6 feet of water maybe 7.

Just as I was about to top off the bushel, around 10:30, I moved my line to the island side right down from that boat house around the second bend to the right and was probably in about 3-4 feet of water.  Although there were lots of big females again I did manage another nice 10-12 males and then the wind picked up and I was out of there by 11:30.

I have had one bad day this year, back in early June (13 crabs) my first time out at the Wye, but other than that, it's been my best year in about say 4-5 years.
What amazed me with the crabs being this thick, when I got back in I was talking with some of the Wye Landing guys and they say there are still people coming in with 5-6 crabs or even getting skunked.  Man, I find that hard to believe.  No matter where I have crabbed since mid June, I have caught crabs.  Makes you wonder, huh?

Well, this should be a great September and October, so get out there and get those big blues before they go vertical and into the mud!

Yea what's up with KC having so many bad days out there?  He has got to look for our reports and check out the primo spots.  If that doesn't work then I would have to chalk it up to operator error!

Yea it might be wet until Sunday, but as long as they wind don't get up in your face, it should be great to crab.

Yo Big H..last 3 times out did real well......size of the crabs has been tremendous...by the way,listen to nothing HenPot says,he's tryin to win "PinHead Of the Year" Wink Wink Grin...looks like headin out Sun and again tues...had to cancel the trip with RockNCrab due to the snotty weather 2morrow Cry Cry

No HP...emailed me the forecast for down there 2morrow early am...not good...wind 15 mph,and a TON of rain....he said it was my call...soooo,thought about it,and don't want to drive 3 hrs in the rain,crab in the rain(he said rain with a trotline can be difficult)...drive back home in the rain..so it was actually my call... Thanks for the report Howard! Hopefully the females will not be where I am. I am going tomorrow. Debated and debated and I am there! Just some wind is no big deal! I can just ride and jump some waves just as I do bodyboarding. Hey KC, you going 2morrow? Stay the [Sam Hill] away from me,  ;Ddon't want to be jinxed by that bad luck you have at the Wye. Wink Good luck if you go, i'll be where I usually am. Hopefully we will hit them as the last couple days I am sure many did not venture out. L8ER!

I will be out there tomorrow as well.  I am hoping the wind dies down in the nest few hours.  I hope to leave here around 4am and get there around 5:30.  I guess well just have to wait and see, but the boats hooked-up to the truck and ready to go.  When i have it that far it's hard to talk myself out of going.

About 6 7 years ago I remember the females on the wye were so prevailaint that they were selling them at 20 dollars a bushel in October. Any way theres plenty of great crabbin yet just around this week coming and are we not glad we missed the big canes this year .. we got our share and more last. Lots of people down south tore up by these last ones.
