I live in New York, north of the City, but come from Jersey, and spent many a summer crabbing off a pier near Tom's River when we went "down the shore" for a few weeks (I lived in Jersey City).

I don't even remember where that was.   Sad   Now though I'd like to take my son pier crabbing in Jersey, as we mostly go crabbing on the Hudson and the pickings are usually pretty sparse.  I want to drop cages down and pull multiples out of the water like I did when I was a kid, and I want him to have that experience too.

Anyone know of any good public spots not too far from the City?  I don't want to spend hours of driving to get there.  Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't think I should rent a boat.  I don't know how to drive one and, more to the point, I can't swim.   laugh
