Anybody heard from Crabcruncher lately? I want to know how the trotlining is going and if there is anything going on about the topless trap issue.

Hey Doc,
I went trotlining last week with two thousand feet and bull lips. A ton of crabs, but mostly small males and females. Havent found out where the big crabs are hiding out yet since last Winter. The trap issue is still unresolved. I have been using them, but have not been stopped by marine patrol so I dont know if they are going to be rediculous about the style of the topless. Its only one knucklehead around my area who thinks he knows the law better than the folks who wrote it. So you shouldnt have a problem where you are crabbing.

Two thousand feet? Jeez, you're getting serious! How deep are they running and what's the bottom like?

Doc,
I was crabbing in St. Andrews Bay, behind Marine fisheries, in six feet of water. Bottom was very grassy. Area known for shallow wading and dipping crabs. Only boat accessible. Plenty of crabs, but mostly small and mostly female. Im going to change my trotline to one with snoods. I think because of the clear water, the large males are dropping off before I can see them. Snoods should help keep them hangin on. I know there are big males in area, but trotline hasnt got them yet.

CC you might want to try over in east bay and on the north shore(Laird Bayou), the biggest males are probley going to be on in where the intercoastal waterway narrows down(Sandy Creek) and beyond,i know it's a bit of a drive but it might be worth it.

Thanks RD,
I was over in Laird bayou about six weeks ago, there were some nice crabs there, but I didnt get many. Will have to try it again soon. Is Sandy creek further up the intercoastal to the east where it doglegs to the Northeast toward raffield point?

Got it RD,
I will try the trotline in there as soon as Summerow gets hungry again.
Side note: I was inspecting that photo of the platter of crabs for some abnormally large claws but couldn't spot them.....I guess he knows about the October start , or he's smart enough to know than to photograph em....
