Annapolis Area

Thanful for the site, the information is wonderful. I'm fairly new to the area and am looking for general info on crabbing sites this side of the bay from about the Magothy down to the West river. Is there anything good that convienient to Annapolis? I am familiar with most rivers and creeks in that area from boating but not crabbing. In particular, I have large waterfront access in Shady Side, and also just moved my boat up Mill creek right next to Cantlers Inn resturant. Does Whitehall area have anything to offer. I live on the water at Chesapeake Harbor in Eastport. No one I spoke to in that immediate area had anything good to say about crabbing there.
Thanks

That's because those people don't want you to crab in their spots!!
That is the area I crab (in and around Annapolis) and I do well practically everywhere. I have my good spots, though, and I am not goin to tell you them, but try Carr Creek (I think thats what it's called), across the Severn River from Annapolis (by the big radio antennas). I haven't been there in years but I used to do great there. Good Luck!!

I tried to act like a nieve tourist just asking out of curiosity. Guess most guys whov'e been around don't fall for that. But, the traps just infront of the property produced very little last season. I also watched a crew working long trotlines on several occasions. They all seemed to come up empty. I'll be crabbing the area around annapolis even if it comes up short, just because its close and fun.

Neither
Chesapeake Harbor is a community on Annapolis bay, On the severn I quess. Just East of the entrance to Back creek. From the water it looks like condos and has its own inlet to a small marina.

Well, I can't recall exactly where that is, but try where I said and you're gonna catch something. It seems, to me, that the further up the Severn you go, the worse the catch is. I'm not sure why that is, so I stay at the mouths of rivers/creeks when I crab. I'm going to try around Whitehall in a couple of weeks and see what's brewin, I'll give a report when I do.

Thanks for the input. Iwill be trying Whitehall soon as well, especially since I keep the boat on mill creek now and have to go through Whitehall to get to the bay.
I would not first choose to crab in front of where I live. Its just that its less than a 5 minute walk to the end of the pier.
Good luck

Went out yesterday near annapolis with 1200' trot line using chicken necks. Got 1 1/4 bushel 6-7" males and some even larger in about 4 hours. I usually don't see any crabs until mid June.

So if as you say that you usually don't catch crabs until mid-June, why should I believe that you caught 1 and 1/4 bushels in 4 hours in the middle of May? Also, why would you say I got 6-7" crabs and some larger when you could just as easily said I caught 6-10" crabs?

Thanks for the update JimB, that's a good sign. The warm weather appears to be bringing them in early. I am going to have to hit the Wye a little early this year. Ignore WISE GUY, you don't owe him any explanation, who cares what he believes, and he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about.

The reports are good, from the locals anyway, for the Annapolis area. I am having fun in my backyard of Annapolis and do not feel the need to travel to get better crabbing. I was out racing this week and saw where the commercial guys have their pots. The pots are a pain in the rear when boating, but I know where the crabs are.

I heard the crabs are in the bay now. Especially in the area between CBBT and the flats. Just thought I'd pass that along.
