Chicken
«

I was able to buy chicken Quarters at 40 cents a pound. My question is should I cut them up? As Legs and thighs or just the legs? I also bought some necks.
What is everyone's thougths, and don't say BUNKER.

I would cut them up. Rebaiting is a a little bit of a pain, but a fresh piece will attract more crabs than an old piece.

I buy chicken the same way. I cut them into 3 peices. The drum stick is one peice, then there are two bones in the thigh. I cut it so there is about the same amount of meat on both peices of bone. It works great for me, but you do have to change the bait a lot. A fresh peice of chicken works better then an old one that has been in the water for a few hours.

"BUNKER BUNKER" I SAID IT
If your handlining, I would use legs or another meaty peice where they can really sink their clamps in and, in my experience, are less likely to release. Found that best since the second grade. But I agree with the others otherwise.

I usaully use fresh chicken but leaving it out in the sun for a few hours dosn't hurt or help in my opinion. I wouldn't like to eat rotten chicken so I don't feed it to what I'm about to eat in a few hour. But if thats all I have it will work fine. Everyone has their own way of crabbing so you might have half of you chicken set out and the other fresh. Then see which one works better for you. Don't know if that helped you Kristie but good luck crabbing.

Well, I usually use live aardvarks in my traps. You can usually get by with a half of one though. For some reason, them crabs really love them aardvarks!!!

Wait one minuite madcrab. You said you use Live aardvark in your traps. I think you might be fibbing to us. Becouse then you said that you use half an aardvark in your traps usually and a half an aardvark would be dead.

Kristie -
According to the Iron Chef, "You are what you eat", so I use fresh chicken backs and re-bait every other day. Of course, God knows what else they eat out there! As long as I am serving them dinner I'm going to stay on the fresh side -- makes me feel better about eating my crabs. Whenever I can, I like to clean them before cooking, which I think is even better.
My two cents, others may disagree,

Ok, so Bouregard is down by the bayou in Louisiana catchin’ a mess of fish for that evening’s meal when Ustus walks up to him. Hey Ustus, how you be? Well, I’m OK, but I’ve got bad news and good news. Well, Ustus, give me the bad news first. OK, Bouregard, well I stopped by your place to see if you wanted to go fishin’ and no one was home. So, I walked down by the levee to fish and found your wife, underwater, just laying on the bottom along the shoreline. She must have slipped and fallen in while fetchin’ water. Oh no, Ustus, that is really bad news! What’s the good news? Well, Bouregard, she had 14 blue crabs on her and I managed to catch 12 of them! I left here there and plan on going back this afternoon to see if I can catch some more.
((This was an exerpt from a book review on CSPAN a few days ago)).

I think folks in Virginia Beach are going to be off their crabs for a while. I thought Tony Soprano was in New Jersey.

Thanks Crabguy. It sounds like the killer likes to eat crabs as well, since he or she put the body in a suit case so that the crabs couldn't eat the body parts.
On the seriose side I hope they catch the person doing this. The person must be really sick to do something like this.
