Huge White Perch

I caught a huge white perch at my secret spot in Annapolis yesterday. I took some pics and I'll put them up as soon as I can. I didnt have a ruler but I have some reference photos compared to my fishing rod...with the fish against the rod and then a photo of a ruler against the rod. I thought it was a rockfish when it hit...and it's definitely bigger than the citation white perch I caught last year. I let it go to fight another day; I just hope it wasn't a record!!. Pictures coming asap!!

I fish in Annaplois sometimes, my Uncle owns a Marina over near Eastport. What were you using as bait?

I usually use lures. I was using a treble-hooked, gold spoon. Bait wise though...peeler crab is the ultimate. I fish at a private marina on Spa Creek and there are some big perch in there...but this was the biggest one I've ever caught.

And here's a nice little rock I caught last night. I've caught rock at this marina...right off the dock...up to 35". They usually run between 12-24"...but there's nothing like pullin' in a brute on the light gear I use.

Wow, congratulations!!
I thought I caught a big white perch this year. Was out on the Wye and inbetween running the trot line throw a spinner around. This one put up a pretty good fight on 4lb test.
Now, on the other hand....look what I brought in while down OBX last fall!! Put up a [Sam Hill] of a fight. Actually very sad tale, with a funny twist. When my wife and I got the beach house in Corolla, she opened the door and took a big whiff...., she said "mmmmm I love the smell of the ocean!". I thought it smelled like someone's septic tank went out.
Moved the stuff in the house and hit the beach. Saw this blob in the surf and went to investigate. That "ocean air" turned out to be a North Atlantic Right whale. Only about a couple hundred left, very rare. Called in to marine sciences and they performed a necropsy. Turned out she was almost full term and was heading down to Georgia/FLa coast where they give birth. Did some more tracking and it turns out this whale was hit by a war ship in mouth of Chesapeake. Severed one side of her fluke and she slowly passed away and drift to OBX. What a shame.

DH, Thanks for the compliment on the dog. As you know, they are not only good companions, high energy, but hunting is in their blood! We picked her up a couple of years ago from the MD GSP rescue. She was found in W. VA when she was about 6months old. She has a great nose for birds, and deer. But unfortunately, she is gun shy, which is why I think some breeder just let her go in W. Va. Gun shyness is tough work out of a dog, but I'm getting there. In the meantime I'm going to use her to help track deer especially those taken just as the light fades. I won't even need a flashlight anymore LOL.
When she was on the beach I let her run, holy cow! Other dogs were out and none could keep up with her in speed, turns or endurance. In fact one owner came to complain she was going to give their overweight terrier a heartattack!
