Well ---- for those of you thast followed my previous search for the "Fresh Water" crusteasions, (sp?) ---- I have finally found the Mecca of the Mudpuppy. ----- Little Rock and Hot Springs Arkansas.
Lets start with Hot Springs --- "www.thecrawfishhole.com
A great looking place from the road and a clean entrence from the front door. My group went in and were seated at the back, (they knew they didn't want me around the others). We ordered the three pound plate of the crawdads for each of us and a bucket of beer. (I had to share the first bucket with my companions wife and kids. Well ----- she did have one of them!!!).
After the first half hour, the women and kids couldn't keep up with us and left. The remaining two of us ordered a total of 15 pounds of the delectible little ones. ------- and wow ------ they were a good two per handful each. (I don't know how to describe them other than only two would fit in your hand!!!). Big ones!!!!
Two buckets of brew, (six bottles per bucket), and 7.5 pounds each of the crawdaddies later ---- we called it quits. I couldn't imagine a better deal. $12.50 per serving each. and $12.50 per bucket ..... we had a bill of $110.00 for the group - 3 adults and two children for dinner and the two men ----- (we went crazy with the additional brew and tasty little ones).
I then find out that while we were there on Wednesday night ---- on Thursday nights, the next night, they have an "all you can eat" crawdads for $15.00!!!!
Thursday night coming up and what do I do?
Well ... I was in Little Rock at around 4pm and met a couple of co-workers for a brew and a decision of what to do for diner. We had this challenge of the "All you can eat" in Hot Springs ------ 60 minutes away, or do a 42 ounce Porter House steak at a place called "Doe's" on Markam Street. (This is another GREAT Resturant Review for another time).
As we were sitting in this place ---- sippin the 12 oz. Rolling Rocks at $2/each - "Happy Hour", the bartender announces that they have "150 pounds of crawdads to give away for the happy hour patrons, first come ---- first served"
OOOOOKKKKKK --- There was three of us, we started with 5 lbs each and went from there. Three plus helpings each, (not including an order for one of our group that had to leave to go home for dinner. Oh well ---- we took his).
And it was all FREE!!!! Well we did have to pay for the brew. Anyway ---- Five beers each, (they had 'Shiner Boch' on tap), and all the crawdads we could eat was only $12.00!! Can't get better than that!!
As you can see from the pictures ---- there were some good sized ones.
I Definitely recomend --- the "Anderson's Cajun's Wharf" 2400 Cantrell Rd. Little Rock, AR 72202 501-375-5351
