Don't know about shed tanks, put I have a salt water tank that is 90 gallons.  It is recommended that the water turn over 3-5 times per hours. so I don't think 450gph pump is outside the range.  You also need to factor in the head pressure resulting fom the height the water needs to be pumped.

Well, I finally bought a good pump

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120104260997&rd=1&rd=1

I really wanted a 1/2 hp 220 volt pump,but I am getting a 3/4 hp 220.
I dont think they make a 1/2 hp 220.

Anyway my tank is set up just like RD's with 2 output pipes in opposite direction, If the pump is to powerful ; my plan is to add a third pipe flowing to the top of my filter, and that water will just be filtered again.

Thanks again, RD and H-fly for your advice.

What happened to the 1hp pump??? Is it still offered on  EbayHuh I may check into that one for someone else and make a little hustle. They use the 1 horsers for their shedding op actually it's 3 pumps 2 run all the time 3rd is for a spare and when they buy extra peelers from SC.
Jeff good luck with the shedder op, post some pics Bro! Grin One dumb [arse] question though, where are and how are you getting your peelers?Huh Are you keeping all little crabs that look like peelers or just the pink to red liners??? Oh please look out for those false peelers (females) if you are buying from other crabbers. If ya let them slip in the tank for one they wont shed 2nd they'll eat or try to eat the softies Angry

There's really two choice we have to buy good pumps one is at the pool supply place (28 miles away) or from Grainger little bit pricey also 55 miles away but has wide selection of stuff and not just pumps about everything you can think of. Chris I'm logging onto Craigs list as we chat.

H fly-I dont know about that 1hp pump but, here is another pump I was looking at. Its more hp but it is a two speed and a 220.

I only have 4 traps that I might get 0-3 redliners, I am looking to buy 14 more. I might PM kajun Crabber to see if he has extra used ones.

Is there another way or trap, to target the red liners?

I just thought of something, that extra hp pump might be a good thing b/c right now the height of by filter cant be taller then the over flow pipe.

So by adding a third pipe that runs back to my filter , could go in a 55 gal drum, and then flow back into my lower filter.

Just a thought I had we will see once its hooked up if I even need that 3rd pipe.

Jeff if the pump is to strong then you need to put a valve inline between the pump and tank that way you can cut it back to whats needed
