My father-inlaw gave me a March pump that was used to pump sea water into his ac for cooling, in his sail boat. It needs a impeller base. Its magnetic drive , 1/25 hp 1.55 amp I think around 450 GPH

was wondering if anyone has every used this type of pump and how did it work ;I was even thinking to put a inline filter

This type pump is not worth a [curd].
I can't afford a pool pump or find a used one. I see sump pumps a home depot for 60 bucks. My only concern is that I think there not made to run all the time.
Any thoughts.

Look at the pumps used for salt water aquariums.  I have several mag pumps and they have worked continously for 2+ years and never had a problem -- plus they are very quiet.  Depending on how high you need to pump the water, you'll probably need a mag 7 - up to a mag 12.

here's a link showing the gph versus the head pressurehttp://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_powerheads_pumps_danner_mag_drive_supreme.asp?CartId=

You can pick up a used pump off of eBay or the CMAS website http://www.cmas-md.org/forums/

I probably have a used mag 7/9 you can have for $25.00.

Would a bilge pump work?  Course, they're not really made to run continously either.  But you can get some serious gph and they're not that pricey Undecided

My problem is 1st I have to run tube only 1/2 thick the 2nd I need the preasure higher to arrate the tank. I could hold the outlet and stop the flow w/ my finger.
I thought 400gph was the same weather it comes out 1/2" tube: or comes out 2 "pipe from another pump that produces 400 Gph.

Maybe you need something like a well pump with a pressurized holding tank, just like a house.  And that system supplies water through 1/2" pvc or copper.   Flow rate = velocity x area

sounds like you need a pool pump - made to run continuously

best - flea market or friend, couple dollars

next - pennysaver etc

next - ebay

last - buy new >>>>  NO WAY

i run'm 24/7 they will run about one season in saltwater, maybe two, but the screens clog.  u gotta clean them all the time..

Bought a mag drive pump this summer.  it has done great, not needing cleaning and less power used.  I'll check the brand name and post it here..

Jack, I checked out your profile, and found your web site- your selection and prices are incredable. I was a small engine mechanic for 4 years, so I no all about that stuff. You sell dixe chopper parts I see, I need a seat for mine, I didn't see it listed; do you sell it? also you sell electric motors I need a motor that will go forward and reverse at a low speed ( sort of like a garage door opener; do you sell that?

Please let me know about your mag pump--------thanks Jeff

I am no longer associated with the business.  They dropped Dixie Chopper a couple of seasons ago.  I don't know anything about the electric motors, sorry.

The mag drive pump is a model pe-1f-rw by Little Giant.
