Duck and deer 10/14-10/22

Last Saturday was the start of the 1st split of MD's late waterfowl seasons (if that makes sense). Only got to hunt Saturday but we harvested 2 mallards, 1 pintail, 1 widgeon and a spoonbill...... left work early Wed. to try for deer during MD Blackpowder season. I did not harvest a deer, but seen a few and had a great time with my family and friends. We lease and own a little under/over 1000 acres in Somerset county, MD with a small cabin......and it was nice to get away. The club, as a whole (12 guys), managed to harvest 3 deer (2 spikes and a 5 pointer)......but we all saw deer and many elected not to shoot, including myself. I saw 1 spike and around 7 does all weekend. Definitley slow, but fun none the less. Since the Blackpowder season and duck season overlapped for the first time as far as I can remember....I took advantage of the small river that runs through out property (Manokin). One of my deer stands is located on it.....and I have seen many of woodies.......so off I went, and I busted a nice flock of a log of somewhere close to 10-15 woodducks.............picked one out and after 2 quick cycles from my Benelli SBE..........this fine fellow lay motionless on the water. Went back out that evening and seen that small spike....than I got drunk and slept in the rest of the weekend....
Lots of fun!!!

Great pics Chris. They are a tease while I'm sitting here inside at work. Can't wait to get out there myself. Good luck and hopefully you have a fruitful season.

Chris S,
Nice pics. Pretty wood duck. That deer stand is in some thick stuff. Seems like the foliage is late coming down this year. Half the leaves up my house are just turning color. Not many have fallen down yet. Some with this bad wind, but I'd say at least 80 percent haven't fallen yet. Weird weather year.
Thanks for the pics. looks like you had a good time.

Cool pics, Chris!
Looks like if ya fall asleep in your stand, you'll at least have a little water to break your fall!

Thanks Crabguy.
Domino,
When I have to "P".........Well, you know where it's going. Never had to do #2 in the stand, but if I did, I wouldn't think twice......hang my cheeks over and send it "down stream"!!!
