Crabbing the indian river

Can anyone tell when is a good time to start crabbing the Indian River, I was down there this weekend and the air temp was 68 degrees, man it was nice. We drove up to Holts Landing to check out the boat ramp seems nice. But the water looked real rough. It looked like a short ride from there to the power plant.

I think the water temp might be too cold. unless it is alot warmer around the power plant ? thats where I would try first. GOOD luck.

flyrod, you could probably start around the end of march beginning of april, just get near the warm water discharge from the power plant and you shouldnt have any problems. i have a buddie that starts around that time and he usually gets at least a bushel......good luck

My experience at Holt's Landing was a LOT of females! But the clamming is great there!!! Low water at that ramp so be careful!

Flyrod, It is on the north side just off Rt.24. It is called the Rosedale Beach Launch. It is between Gull Point and Warwick Park. There is a public crabbing peir there also. Good Luck!
