I've been crabbing for a long time, and to be honest i havent seen a major decline in crabbing from 12 years ago to now.but then again when it comes to crabbing its all a matter of what spot your going to and where they decide to be that day.the only true way to determine the crabs population would to build a multi-billion dollar infared system that encompessed the entire bay and its tributarys and was in real-time to see the movements and count every single crustacean.thats the only way to determine if the population is getting better or if its getting worse.
you could dredge one spot, find nothing, move 20 feet up and dredge again and find the highest amount of crabs ever.

Billion dollar equipment to what find crab population for a million dollar industry, VOTE NO FOR TAX DOLLARS ON THAT IDEA. And a brain fart idea that is. You're right in a sense about not seeing a decline but you haven't seen a increase in numbers either. Oh sure one spot has them and another doesn't it's been the same game for decades. Habitats have been changed or destroyed and bait fish or fish in generally have moved to warmer colder areas. To many reasons and ifs. But in whole there is a slight decline in numbers, decreasing numbers of comm. Few that remain up the gear ratio so nothing is gained (by the lose of comms) So explain again the theory of a super nuclear infrared gizmo that's gonna tell me the crab population and where I dump the first strand of 100 pots?Huh? the main reason i stated you needed it,is because its the true and only accurate way...every time i see a report come out i know its usually either A. a biased report to confirm ones motive. or B. a report that can say one thing, then come to find out its the other.

having a multi-billion dollar infared system would definately work, plausable? absolutely.probable? not a chance.if they ever do make a system like that, then i would put faith in any report they put out to tell me whether or not the population is declining or growing.its the only way to give a true blue crab count.dont expect to see one anytime in the near century.for now take every report released with a grain of salt.cause after all its hit or miss with these reports.

btw,i wouldnt mind tax increases...cause to an individual it would cost about 3 dollars.but i rather just strip programs that arent needed,
like these reports to pay for that uber leet system,or getting rid of pensions for elected officials.
