“Going to Kansas City …. Kansas City here I come …….”

Well ….. my advice on this one review is ---- DON’T BOTHER!!! It’s not worth it!!

With this name I thought it was a good place to try for our goal to find a great ‘Shellfish’ dinner, ON THE ROAD!!

Monday was - All you can eat, peel & eat - ''Spiced Shrimp''. W/corn on the cob & new potatoes, it sounded great.

Right from the begining - the staff seemed 'stiff' & not welcoming. The man who greeted(?) me was especially 'standoffish'. He was just a little presumptuous for me. My server Robert, seemed friendly enough, but he left my 1st Scotch empty for over 10 minutes! (That’s a wrong move with me)! He continued to improve as the night progressed however - drinks came more quickly, requests to the chef were communicated correctly, etc.
I started with a non-descript green salad. The dressing however, as recommended by Robert, was the house 'Citrus Italian' - and very good. However - Plain rolls with - 'margarine'? Tacky!!!
The entree came well presented - a cast iron pot, full of shrimp, (at least 6 dozen), new potatos and an ear of corn. A separate plate for the veggies …. corn - (frozen mush), potatos - (hard & watery), lemon, etc. A larqe ceramic 'conch' type shell for the ''shrimp shells'' as you peeled them, was a nice touch.
The 'cocktail sauce' was too bland for my tastes. The advertised 'spice' in the Shrimp was an Allspice & Cinnamon mix and it was served hot not chilled as most 'peel & eat' shrimp are. Robert was quick to return with my requested Horseradish to 'livin up' the cocktail sauce!!!
My first batch of shrimp was over cooked and had a lot of what I call 'paper shells'. Mushy meat in a thin shell that is hard to peel. (I don't know what causes this - shrimp close to shedding? Frozen & Thawed too much? Over cooked?) Whatever causes it, when I requested the second helping - with a suggestion to cook it less, it was much better. Still not as good as chilled but ok
(I'm hoping their steaks are better. I'll give the Kansas Strip a try next time I'm in town).
Bill for a couple hundred shrimp and assorted other 'blah' food - with three drinks and a nice tip - $39.00
Only a two claw recomendation - from the Grasshopper.
