I am planning on going to the outer banks for a week next month but i can't find any info on crabbing in NC. It would just be some rec crabbing... what are the laws and do i need a permit? is there a trap size?

 Hello,
Did you ever get your answer on NC crabbing?
I tried about a month ago but only got broken info and the run around.
Anyway we are heading out for Md. tomorrow to catch some real crabs and do some Rock fishing. I used to live in Md and know some great spots.
If you find out about NC regulations please let me know. We use a Trot Line in Md. and I would like to try some of the NC rivers.
                      Thanks,
                               Richard

Crabbing, enjoying the water, meeting new people, making new friends, that's what it's all about.

The minimum length is 5" Carapace Width (point to point in other words) and  a limit of 50 crabs per person/day or 100 vessel/day.
I hope this helps. Also, a favorite spot of mine is around the Oak Island, NC area. This is down near Wilmington. A real laid back town, with some nice piers. Check one out at www.oceancrestpier.com  They have an awesome website with a live web cam that updates every 30 seconds.
