Whereabouts in central jersey are you looking? Also do you have a boat or will you be crabbing from a dock or pier?

I live in Summit, NJ and I don't have a boat. Have to do it on pier, dock or bank. Any spots within one and half hour drive will be good.

You've hit the nail right on the head. If it's a good, safe spot, you can bet that it's private and you're not welcome (.i.e. marinas). One of the better public spots is the Perth Amboy city dock. Otherwise, you'll find yourself hanging off of bridges and old rickety docks. Another spot is in Cheesequake State Park, but the crabbing area is small.

I finally found a good, safe place to crab in central NJ. We went to the Keyport bulkhead in downtown Keyport. Great parking -- not crowded. I wish I caught more crabs, but the two 6-inchers we kept tonight tasted great. We also caught a lot of small crabs, a horseshoe crab, and a good-sized thick eel.
I'm definitely going back tomorrow or next week.

My first post!
Every summer, until about four years ago, my aunts and uncles used to rent a house in LBI (Beach Haven). We'd get up at 5a, rent a couple boats, and crab the whole day. I love crabbing!
Recently, my boyfriend and I went out to Causeway Boat Rentals (Ship Bottom). I live about 10 min away from Summit (I actually go to your train station every day to commute to work!). We left my house at 5:30a, got to Causeway at 7, and we were out on the water by 7:30. After bringing the boat in at around 4:15ish, we headed back and got to my house around 6ish. Yahoo maps claims it should take about 2 hrs, but I guess I drive fast ;p I was averaging about 80-90 both ways.
Good luck!

Um...sorry guys...I don't get it. I'm guessing you guys have never heard "ish" used? Otherwise you wouldn't be laughing as hard as Black Irish is, and you also wouldn't be using it in all the wrong places. Half your sentences don't make any sense. Maybe I missed something.

Just having some fun. We know what 'ish' is. I was cracking up because SC was talking about driving 90
ISH
and Big Al wanted to know what roads to stay off of.

Tj. We are pulling your chain on the ish thing. Welcome to the Board. I would however, encourge you to slow down on the highway as over the years I have seen tragic results caused by speeding on the highway. Looking foward to many more posts from you. Good crabbing

Thanks, T...
Just to clarify...
I was talking about AVERAGING 80-90 on the highway, not driving "90
ISH
." "90ish" would imply that the car was traveling roughly 90 mph the entire time, which was not the case. However, we did return the boat at approximately 4:15pm, and arrived back at my house at an estimated time of 6pm. Is that better?
Perhaps I should have noted that the traffic around me was just as fast, if not faster. I was very safe. Please, spare me the "slow down" lecture. I doubt you care about the well-being of someone whose feelings to which you show such disregard.
It's been a bad day for me, and I don't take kindly to teasing when I was simply trying to share my experience.

SpunkyCrab, we're getting off to a bad start here. Welcome to the board. All the regulars on here like to clown around, make fun of each other, etc. No harm meant. Sorry you had a bad day and sorry you took the clowning around personally.
Next time you have a bad day, I hope you come here for a laugh or two.
