A waterman finally dropped some pots here in my creek. He came by and checked them all this morning and not a single crab. This season appears to be off to a pretty bad start. (I'm located in White Stone, VA)

Steve, with the cool temperatures and the abundance of fresh water from precip entering the bay/creeks, we could be as much as 3-4 weeks behind the start of crabbing season from previous years. Pray for warmer days and a lot of sunshine! Gawd, I may have to take up golf to keep busy!! Crabpop

here in louisiana where i live we had 120 inches of rain last year. the run is late this year and i'm just now getting 500 - 700 pounds a day. should have been catching that much months ago and should be at 1000 pounds a day now. better late than never.

Rain. Last summer we needed it and it seems since fall we have had lots ..and snow too. The fresh water flow down the Potomac River is massive. Does not look good to me.. Looking like a cool wet spring and maybe summer also. There will be crabs but it may be into July.Hope I am wrong!

Woa! Those initials reports don't look good but I should not be surprised. That Lousiana crabberman's was really interesting...Sheesh, he talks in pounds and I talk in 1/2 bushels! Take care, R/Howard

I herd today that Oysters are having a hard time, too much rain runoff and pesticedes. The fellow mentioned crabbing will be off again..Well There is a lot of rain of late. and cool. However you know how this goes some years ..cool then wam ! Hot! And crabbing can take off when it gets hot. I am hoping so!

West River ,MD No crabs! I went out Friday with 4 traps to see if anything was biting, didn't see a crab. We haven't had that good week of warm weather yet hopefully that will come soon and they will start running.

I think me and my friend are going to go crabbing for the first time tommorow. I can not wait to see that crab on the end of the line. Hopefully I will have some luck out there. I would be happy with 2 dozen crabs. enough for my friend and me to eat. I will post my results when I get back. Indoe

Got back from my crabbing trip with my friend. It was such a nice morning and the sun was just about to rise when we got to the spot. We set up are hand lines and waited for the crabs to start biting. Unfortanatly the only things biting were the moisqetose and were were their dinner. We crabbed for about 3 hours with out a single bit. We were rapping up everything to start heading home, but on the next to last hand line I felt a little tug. There was finally a crab on one of the lines. I called my friend over with the net and he tried to scoop itup, but he misted. That was Ok since we were about to leave anyway. It was just nice to finally see a crab on the line. I will have to wait 2 to 3 weeks then give it another try. Indoe

Sounds great! What general area were you and when were you out if I may ask? I plan to hit Crab Alley on Tuesday morning. I hear they are getting better by the day down there.
