Spots - Va Beach Area

Any good spots in or around Va. Beach - we don't want to do a pier. Would like to go somewhere good for little ones - plenty of beach around - and maybe some swimmable water nearby!
Thanks

Also check out Seashore State Park @ the beach. I have pretty decent luck back there most of the time. It's a little lacking on the beach part, but it's enough to sprawl out and make some castles
I'm going today as a matter of fact. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok, so I didn't have much luck @ Seashore State Park this time, or the last time I went. I ended up with only about 18 decent size crabs, but nothing special, and it took me WAY TOO LONG to get those. I don't think I'll be going back there again this year. Gonna look for another spot.

Crabguy i live in Hickory and GB Locks Park is about 15 mins from my house, but I've never really heard of anyone doing well there. Have you had luck there before? Recently? Do you have to pay to get into there? Thanks in advance.

Excellent, thanks for the info crabguy. One more question... do you have to hand line like from a dock or pier or is there a beach-ish area where you can wade out and handline there too? And are you over there by Debaun & Lindale? or more on the other side of Military like Midway & Homecrest? Just curious. I have a very good friend that lives on Patton Pl. over off McCosh. Hope your weekend went well. Thanks again for the info.

I usually go to Lynhaven pier and do pretty good there. I have been catching at least 40 every time I go out there. Today was no good. I figured that I would of been really good due to the hurricane, but nope nothing. The tide was too strong and people were saying the water was too cold for crabs. Im in the Military Circle area. Where is a good place I can go sit off a pier and catch some crabs because I know that the water will soon be to cold to walk in? When does crab season end?

Bales...dont fret ..the crabs will come back...i talk to RD who is a commercial crabber down in FLA...and I know a decent # of Commercial crabbers here in Maryland and NJ..they all say that a couple days BEFORE the storm and a couple days AFTER the storm is when they bite the best...the tide has to settle after the storm and the crabs will come back out to feed...also..why dont you bmail Crabguy(Russ)?..he is in Chesapeake Va..I dont know how far you are from him..but he will give you all the help you need as far as docks and piers in his area....hope this helps..Rick
BTW..welcome to the best crabbin site in Da World
