One small note:
Everyone should take a moment to check their profiles (click on the "profile" button at the top of the page) and update their location (including state), etc... that way everyone will know where you're from!

I've been reading the forum for a few years and was once logged in, I'm trying again on my own this time. You have always made me laugh. I lost the love of my life on May 4th of this year from cancer. We were together since I was 13 (yep that's right). 42 of the best years of my life. We started crabbing on the Wye a long time ago by renting a row boat, then we upped one and still rented a row boat and brought along a trolling motor, usually stayed in front of Schnaitman's where the houseboat was moored. Then we bought a boat, 10+ years ago. Boy did we enjoy the Wye, sometimes we caught none and the best we ever did was a bushel, handlined, traps, trotlined (once). There wasn't a tributary my husband couldn't find. We just enjoyed being out on the water. I now have a boat for sale. It's old but has been very pampered, kept in the garage and cleaned as soon as we came home, even before the crabs were unloaded. She's a good old girl that holds a lot of memories, but I can't tow it or back it up. Geez I hate buying crabs. Anyway, it's a 1972 MFG (red) with a 85 hp mercury on the back, new tires on the trailer that never got out of the garage last year, depth finder/fish finder, new captain's seat, new carpeting and lighting system. That old boat never let us down, there was times we pulled up beside a high dollar new boat that was having trouble and we thought how lucky we were. Can someone out there with knowledge of boats give me some kind of an idea how much my girl is worth? I only want it to go to a good home with someone who will take care of it like we did.

Welcome Sadcrab. Hope we all can make you a Happycrab. It takes time to get over a loss, well I guess you never get total over it. Go to the For Sale section of the forum and list your boat there, it might help.

Sadcrab, very sorry to hear about your loss. You have my sincere condolences. I would suggest that you go to the following NADA Guides link, enter the appropriate information about both the boat and motor, and it will give you both the low value and average value for the boat and motor. You may not have at hand all the information that is asked for, but if you have the boat title, it should list the model number, length, etc. As far as the year and model number for the outboard, see if you can find the owners manual, where it will be listed.
Good luck.

Thanks to you all, I knew if anyone could send me in the right direction it would be the wise ones on this site. As always, what you have is always worth more to you than anyone else.
May god bless.

Welcome Sadcrab, my condolences on your loss, sounds like he was a great man. I am glad hear you have such great memories to treasure and you need to hold on to them. I know it is a difficult time for you now. Hopefully we can provide some cheer now and then and this board helps you get a fair price for your boat. I will apologize for some of the posts, sometimes we lose control of ourselves here when we are not catching crabs, but it is all in good fun. I wish you the best.

I just moved back home from Boston and got a place near the Elk River. Growing up in this area, Crabs are obviously my favorite food. Beats lobster any day! I am discouraged to hear everyone talking about small crabs here. When I left, 10 years ago, you could still get good size crabs. I used to do most of my crabbing in the waters around Assateague Island so I am not very familiar with the Chesapeake. I know most of the talk on this forum is about the middle and lower Chesapeake, are there any spots in the upper Chesapeake worth mentioning? Any help would be great.

Oh, KC is a great guy, talks a good story, but he knows nothing about catching crabs.
If you want to crab and get drunk while ending up with an empty bushel. He's your man.

I was born and raised in Jersey City N.J. where as a kid the closest thing to wildlife I'd ever seen was the cow on the label of a can of condensed milk. As I got older I fished and crabbed all the way up the Jersey coast from Union Beach to Wildwood...I loved Atlantic Highlands, Barnegatt Bay and Long Beach Island...I'm now a transplant in Melbourne Florida where, so far, no one seems to know any really good crabbing spots locally. Crabbing is not a big deal to most people here. Fishing is their main thing. I found a couple of spots on my own that are fairly good but I'm looking for a great spot like I had in Jersey where you can land a bushell in half a day. I would welcome any information on crabbing spots from anyone in my area.
