The Northern Snakehead,a sharptoothed,eel-like fish that can drag it self across land and feeds off birds,frogs,mammals and other fish,has invaded a pond in South Philadelphia and may have made it to the Delaware and Schylkill rivers.
 The State game and fish officials report at least 6 snakeheads have been caught in  recent days.
   The report goes on to mention Marylands encounter with this pest,and request that all fishermen who catch a Snakehead Kill it on sight and report the catch to the fish and game  commission.
   Wonder if this would be good crab bait ?

Kingcrabber, alias Snakehead Hunter, I like that Rick has a nice sound to it. This problem is only going to get worse unless the govt. severely cracks down on these illegal importers. People are too stupid and malicious and this problem will only spread and get worse until serious action is taken. Angry The real severity of this problem won't be known until the damage is done if something isn't done quickly.

King,
they found the snakeheads in Meadow Lake in Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park. That's down near the Navy Yard
off of Broad street. The Schuylkill River And the Delaware river are in close proximity and subject to tidal sloshing. They figure the fish have access to both rivers.
   They do not seem too concerned about it,as one offical said,"we don.t except the the world to shift on it's axis",     Oh Well  Roll Eyes Big Al

If I remember correctly, when they were found a few years ago in a pond (in MD I think?), thery totally killed everything in the pond, to make sure those Snakehead bassturds were dead Shocked

Snakeheads for bait.........I remember one time taking a whole MESS OF of sunfish, carp and such crabbing. I had this catfish head off of a 27 pounder caught in the Allegheny river.

We put it on a handline and called it the ugly line, didnt catch anything

Although Snakeheads arent being introduced, they are getting into our waterways.

If it truly is no longer an isolated case then the fisheries are in trouble. Its a warning sign and I hope its a false one.

I personally wouldnt worry too much about the snakeheads. even if they populate our waters, there is a commercial market for them which means the numbers will never get too high. i personally would set nets for them if they get out of control. i hear they taste very good

Back in my tropical fish tank days I had a few snakeheads.  They can only live out of water long enough to slither from one pool to another one not that far away.  They do have big mouths but only eat what they can swallow whole.  In a fish tank you can keep them with other fish that are bigger than the snakehead.  I had more than one that became dinner for bigger fish.
