No but it was a beautiful crab. I think it would of been ok as long as it was cleaned before cooking.

I haven't ever seen anything myself until August but I'm good with an outing.  There's a free ramp in Chester right underneath the Commodore Barry Bridge or a pay spot in Ridley right near Boeing.  Chester isn't the best area but I've been to that ramp plenty of times both with a boat and just to fish from the pier and have never had any problems.

Let me know when!  The best part about being down there is when the guys fishing at the pier see some nice size crabs come out of the water. Personally, I won't eat em but I'd love to bring a bushel back to the dock and let them run around the pier for a few.  There's usually a few young kids with their parents who would go nuts over seeing them.

I'm surprised more people don't know about crabs in the water down there....

I've been following this post for quite some time, (from eddystone, PA) I've gone to "taste of key-west" and actually see the people pull up pots with a dozen or so in them, I've always wanted to go locally, but assume we wouldn't see any action until at least mid July

The best years are drought years for sure !!    I also used to catch a lot of spot(brackish fish) also from the delaware in philly.

the waters around the commodore barry will be getting better, with the regulations they have put on chester to protect the wildlife. also getting rid of factory's, and the installment of the football field down there. one thing that's going to hurt it though, in Eddystone they are moving the scrap yard that's usually on the side of the platt bridge down there, and it's caused a good bit on controversy in eddystone. there's supposedly a rare mussel too in the waters near us. we tried any resource to keep them out of our community but our borough is soo corrupt with politics it's not even funny. i'd love to have a fishing spot in eddystone, where i could walk to without any toxic dumps near me.

Fish and crabs aren't the only things you can catch from the delaware in philly....and you don't need a fishing license, only a health insurance  card.   laugh laugh laugh

Also, if they ever do that dredge they've been talking about, the waters will be worse than they have been in a while.

Throw a few crabs in the pond tanks at Cabelas.   Then they will be so close that you can ride your bike to catch them.

I am up for a PA crabbing day.  Also since there are no clear regs about traps (or at least there were none last time I checked.) we could crab the jersey side or even run down below the DE line and crab there along 495.  Seen lots of pots on the DE side last year.  Since I have a DE license and recs can use two pots I had two out there last year and did pretty well.

We should wait until late august or early september when the river is hot and low and the salt line is way up the river.  When we see the pots out there I will do a test run.  It I catch some then we can set up a day (either a weekday afternoon post work time or a weekend morning) and meet with several boats at the ramp.  All of us go out on the river and see how many PA crabs we can round up.  I think it would be fun!

I'm up for it as well and hold both NJ and DE licenses.    Hopefully there is a big dotted line on the water delineating the borders.    laugh
