I think it's a bit early. We need some warm weather to escalate those temps. Have heard some reports from some friends that were striper fishing out in the bay. They were pulling up huge blue claws left and right but they were out in the bay. Encouraging however.

I put out four traps in the last 2 weeks and got two or three dozen, (with white perch, catfish and small turtles thrown in too), .... only 8 keepers though. I had them just downstream of a creek where it comes into a larger creek or the river.

Not much ..... but they are starting!!!

Hopefully it'll be a good year. What temp does the water have to be? Anybody know? Thinking about trying my luck this weekend but don't want it to be a complete waste of time. Thanks

Over the long weekend I also hit 7 bridges.  One guy had caught four nice 5.5 inchers but had been crabbing for 9hrs.

However,  the guys fishing the shore lines near the coast guard station were landing a few short stripers & some 2-5 pound blues.

Does anyone know of a location near the coast guard station that I can access form the shore to get into some black fish ?

I like to crab when the tide is come in, but (in Ludlam bay Saturday) that won't be till late afternoon.  By then rain should be well underway.  I may still try early morning.  Everyting points to a bad day of crabbing, but if the weather holds out for a few hours, could be a nice few hours on the water with the family.

I will give an update on monday.

Went down today off of route 9 in the Great Bay area crabbing off the shore. It was a very crappy day to be down there but the water seems to be warming up. I caught a lot of throw backs and only a few keepers but released em'. It's hard crabbing when you don't have a boat! But I'll give it a few weeks and try agian. This weather hasn't been much good. Hopefully, if we get a few nice, sunny, hot days the crabs will really start running.
