I would like to try to grill a few next time. I've read here before about a way to quickly dispatch a crab with an ice pick. Any suggestions?

ice pick in above swim fin where it meets body/carapace ( Tongue) on top side of crab and work the point in right to the heart/center of the crab...  give it a little twist and pull it out... grilling info should be under recipes a couple pages deep if the topic isn't current enough to be on the most recent board...

Hmmmm, unless you have a gigantic grill, I dont think I'd have the patience to grill a few crabs at a time.  Besides, you will have a huge mess on your hands when all the water and scum come out of the crabs during grilling.  After you steam crabs, look at all the scum inside the steamer.  Thats what you'll have on your grill.  laugh

Someone I work with cleans them first and grills with butter and crab seasoning, and loves them. Some folks clean and steam. I beleive it's just to make some of those funky upperbay crabs taste a little better. I just can't see cleaning nice crabs out before cooking. There oughta be a law!!!

Check out the link below and it will tell you why you should clean them first before eating.
I never did before until I read some of this stuff but I have a 15 yr. old that Loves Crabs so I want to watch out for his future!!! It really makes sense!!!

Why would anyone clean em?  If you were eating the shell, I could understand.
