Guys I am going camping next week at elk neck state park (wed, thurs, fri, maybe sat). We would like to crab everyday we are there. Anybody have any ideas on keeping crabs good for those days? I plan on taking fresh ones home the last day we spend there though. I was thinking i could steam them then take the guts out/clean them. Then i could just throw the rest of the crab on ice? I also have a small fridge i could take with me. Anybody got any ideas/experiance with camping and keeping crabs?

Your idea sounds good.

You may also try finding a crabhouse/beer place that has a walk in cooler in the area that would be willing to store them for you.  Can't hurt to ask.

There are a couple people on here from Carlisle, I am a Bubbler myself.

Good luck camping.  Elk Neck is a nice facility.  I assume you have a boat?

I guess what i am confused about is can i leave the claws and legs on? Will the meat stay good?

Crabbeer, yes i have a 20ft bass boat which we my dad and i use for all kinds of fishing!! I have been to elk a couple times and always find a way to enjoy myself. I live near MT. Holly Springs, its just so hard to get down to the bay/elk neck. Which way do you go? We have been going over to 83 but that takes me close to 45 minutes just to get there. I hate going over twords lancaster just seems like it takes forever   Angry

Yes, the meat will stay good for about 5 days if you keep them cool.  Longer if you pull the guts/backs off.

Ahh, a Holly man... Ever been to Whisky Springs??? Favorite Bubbler hangout.

For me to get to Bubbletown, I take 283 to 30 to 222.  It is about an hour and twenty... From my place, about an hour to be in the water at Elk Neck.
