Hey guys....first time on the forum in a long, long time, and only posted a few times since the format was switched, so it makes it look like I'm a newbie...lol.  Tongue Cheesy

Anyway, I moved down here to Ft Lauderdale from Nj back in October. I know that there is supposed to be alot of crabs in the area, but I can't find any good spots.  Cry

I've tried a few canals and rivers in my area, but have only managed a few small crabs....no keepers. It's hard to get any info down here, because not many people go for blue crabs down here. (Not that I blame them....this is a fishing paradise down here  Grin.)

Does anybody know of any area in or near Ft Laud that are good crabbing spots? Maybe even down as far as Biscayne Bay. Maybe the grass flats down there are similar to the grass back in NJ....a crab heaven?

Thanks for any info you might be able to give me.   Smiley

Just bringing this back up top, since there's alot more activity on the board now. Smiley
Still haven't been able to find any decent crabbing spots.
I went down to Birch State Park (on the intracoastal) about a month ago, and when I pulled in the first trap I got a really nice 6 1/2" crab. Second trap, I had a smaller one. I figured I found "The spot", but I didn't get a single crab after those 2. Cry
Anybody know of any decent loacations down this way? I haven't had any crabs since I moved down here exactly 1 year ago. Cry

I'm 2 hours north of you, and I have had some luck in the canals here.  It is hard to crab here in FL coming form Maryland, but I am determined to find a spot for the blue bugs!

Wow....this thread was a blast from the past. LOL. I got an e-mail saying that there was a reply to this old thread. I honestly haven't even been on this forum in a long time. I tend to forget about a few places I enjoy reading/posting, and gravitate towards only a few certain forums. I'll add Blue-Crab back into my forum rounds. LOL.

Anyway, over the past years since I posted this thread, I have found out that the crabbing situation around the Fort Lauderdale area isn't all that good. There is 1 or 2 commercial guys that trap in the canals in the area, but they don't catch a bunch of them....I guess just enough to make it worthwhile. I actually haven't even gone crabbing in a while...maybe I'll have to go in the next few days or so. The West coast of Florida, and North of Sebastian or so on the East coast, is where the blue crabs get more plentiful. Smiley

Have you tried Card Sound?  I have never personnally crabbed there, but saw several commercial crabbers last time I past through.  It was many years ago.

Also, I use to buy from a crabber who caught from the Jupiter area.

hey spin,

i'm not much of a crabber but i go once every couple of months. there's a park in deerfield beach near the train tracks that has a boat ramp that i've been to a couple times. one of my friends has a dock on the intercoastal as well. I usually go after low tide when it's incoming. usually catch 5-10 keepers.
