Jack,
Just let me know when the first crab feast is....
With the new rules that were just announced...It may be a while before Jack will be having any crab feast. Talk about pulling the rug from under your feet...

I am pretty much done crab'in. I could barely get enough last season with 5 pots. With 4 culling rings, 2 2 3/8", we will never get enough for a cookpot out of 2 pots. Most male crabs here are just barely 5". They will be able to escape. Don't know anything but potting and to old to want to learn new tricks. Hopefully things will bounce back in a year or two.

Sorry to hear Jack........now imagine what it is like if this was the only means of feeding your family and it was you had ever done or knew......don't get me wrong, is there a problem, yes. Do we need to do something about it, yes......but is this the right way....I guess time will tell.
I feel for the watermen who have this as their only income.

I agree. These guys down here are really getting hurt.... What does a 60+ year old crabber do when crabbing is gone? The silver lining in this cloud, for me, is I could always buy crab from my friends cheaper than I could catch them.. I will still tend my 2 pots just to be out there. I will hang 2 off the pier for a total of 4 but we hardly ever get any crab in the creek. Just wish I would have saved the money that I spent getting ready for this year. Dumb me, I knew it was coming.

I called around to some seafood places, and the prices are coming down. A couple of weeks ago the price: 1 dozen females $26.00 (no males available). Yesterday, 1 dozen females $22.00 (still no males).
