Took my Wife out this afternoon for a couple hours of “learning the ropes”. Set up out in the river, but the wind and current were a bit much for propstick prototype #2.
Reel sides are not high enough for anything but straight on rolling and the line popped off consistently half way through the run. We did catch a couple out there in spite of the complications before moving back inside the calm of the creek. Re-set back up in the same spot as my last time out, but with the low tide found ourselves in about 2’ of dirty water. Moved further up into the creek and found a good stretch of flat calm 5-6’ deep and started catching some decent crabs.
Propstick #2 worked flawlessly here with every bait sailing over the rig with predictable precision. I like it and it works good in “ideal” conditions, but ideal conditions and I don’t meet up enough for this to be “the one”.
Had fun making it and I may work with the design some more, but for now it’s back to something a little less complicated.
The crop of crabs was about the same as last time, with most falling just short of basketable. We kept ten from 5” to 6-1/2” for an Independence Day mini feast.
I’ll have to subsidize the meal with some grilled Cobia steaks, but hey….that don’t bother me at all.
The Wife is a natural born dipper and didn’t miss a beat. I think she enjoyed the afternoon as much as I did… and that to me is what is most important.
Hope all here have a good Independence Day and catch lots of crabs!!!!
