I am new to the idea of Crabbing and found your site through search and error on the web. I live in Mass and have a non commercial lobster license which I didn't get out with last year but renewed this year again. To Give a short story My wife has had medical problems and it is now on going and she has become disabled and still has more surgery ahead. I would like to learn about blue crabbing as something she and I can do together and when I can put in the time on a weekend just to spend a day or two with her out on the water. I have a small boat 14ft deep v hull and would like to know places I could go and even places where I might get out from shore.
I saw the post on troll lines and am interested in using pots since I have a lobster license. I do not want to start my crabbing by getting into anyones way or cause problems. I found just setting out three lobster pots in the wrong area can make you an unwelcome person and it took awhile to get myself know as no threat to anyone as I just wanted to put out a couple of pots for myself . I am allowed 10 but only own 3 so you can see I'm low keyed. I have no crab pots and was interested in the troll line info.
So as you can see I have chosen the name Greenhorn to go with the 1st timers on the crab boats Most Deadliest Catch. I know nothing but want to learn, and most of all just not cause any waves with the old timers and find a place to fit in and try my hand at crabbing. IS purchasing a crab pot a good starting point. I can afford one I saw for around $40.00. Or what should I look for to put together for my first try at this? I am sorry to be so long winded but I wanted to kind of let on where I was comming from and a Little about me and hope to start maybe making a new friend or two and enjoy time with my wife when we have time together.
Thanks Greenhorn
