Set out early with high expectations after reading all the rave reviews. First stop near Beckers Boats was a real dud. Crabs no bigger than 2 inches. Next stop at Good Luck Point near the poles was only slightly better 3 nice ones there. Don't believe the papers as they said Good Luck Point was yielding bushels. Decided to go north and stopped near the Route 37 Bridge. No one crabbing there while 10 boats were at Good Luck Point catching nothing. Started hitting them right away for about an hour. Probably caught 2 dozen in that hour. Ended up with 3 dozen very nice sized crabs. Best size in the bay in many years. Stopped back at Good Luck Point to see their catches. Top boat had 8. Was out their from 630 till 1030. Good crabbing to all

They could be there one day and not the next. They move around. 9/19/07 I launched in Bayhead, covered areas down to the Mantoloking Bridge, Herring Island (all around) parts of the Metedeconk, even a little of the Beaver Dam Creek. Sunny and warm all day, slight SE breeze, changes of tide, etc. etc. Perfect conditions. One keeper all day. Spoke with others, same, upper Bay was skunk city.

Nice catch. I'm going down this weekend out of Seabreaze or Dock Outfitters. I'll start out at the bridge and work my way down to the poles. I've had success there in the past.

Going to the Dock Outfitters this Saturday to rent a boat was going to start at Good Luck Point but maybe I'll try the bridge first.

Everyone should try the Toms River adjacent to the Island Heights Yacht Club. Water Depts are about 7'. We usually do rather well in that area.

Thanks! If we have a good catch I'll post a picture. I am definitely going to try near Island Heights.

You need a permit to crab anywhere on land in Island Heights and I am not sure how, where or how much the permits are.  You could call town hall.  As for crabbing in Toms River from land, you really can't.  The only area would be next to the Gilford Park Yacht Club and all of the areas are marked NO Parking.  There isn't anywhere near there to park either.  All other bay/river front access in Toms River(Bayshore, Minturn, etc...) is marked NO CRABBING by Township Ordinance.  The homeowners there will call the Police and they will make you leave.  They could even write you a summons.  It is really unfortunate the town has eliminated all of the recreational fishing and crabbing areas of the bay/river.

the crabbin is good  now isl Hts     a permit is 5 per person crabbin  and kids under 14 are free
you cannot start before  7 am    and must stop at 10 pm    but a good area  and plenty of parking
plus  there are t docks  also  to crab from   but remember the size limit on crabs  as the a co lives
a short distance away   and stops  by often
                                                               oc

    see ya down the bay
