PLACE YOUR CRABS IN A TUB OF ICE FOR ABOUT 15 MINS AND STEAM THEM UPSIDE DOWN AND THE SEASON GOES ALL THROUGH THE MEAT THROUGH THE LEGS AND CLAWS.THINK ABOUT IT WHEN YOU STEAM A CRAB THE FIRST YOU DO IS TAKE OFF THE SHELL WHICH IS FULL OF SEASON.TRY IT ONE TIME AND YOU WILL BE HOOK. LET ME KNOW

ANOTHER GOOD TRICK I LEARN FROM STEAMING CRABS AT THE FAMOUS BO BROOKS IN BALTIMORE WAS USING PICKLE JUICE TO STEAM THEM IN.THAT IS WHAT THEY USE INSTEAD OF VINERGAR AND IT IS GREAT. SO SAVE ALL YOUR PICKLE JUICE 4 STEAMING YOUR CRABS IT IS THE BEST. BO BROOKS MIGHT BE MAD AT ME NOW.OH WELL

Upside down with pickle juice.  What the heck.  Might try a small batch first to see. Wink

I used to eat mustard on my peanut butter and jelly sandwich as a kid.  Everyone said "OOH gross" until they tried it!  Never knew a single person who was brave enough to try it not to have it that way, from then on. laugh  Gives it a nice kick! Wink

Are these CBC crabs that go upside down?  Seems like upside down with shell on could create a pool inside the top of the shell and then the legs are all pointing up and away from rising steam...  I've always tried to make sure they stay blue side up.. Huh

Steamed a dozen or so upside down yesterday.  Worked fine.  Actually got Old Bay on both sides by doing it that way.  Didn't really notice if they tasted any spicier or not, but they definitely cooked up fine. Wink

My dad use to eat jelly and amercian cheese sandwiches... I always thought it a bit unusual.. hijack is ok as he brought up the pickle juices... Now I got something to do with all the pickle juice I have.  I make my own bread and butter chips and dill pickles in gallon jars after many galons of pickles I have a good bit or pickle juice left.  So which kind of pickles did they use Dill I would guess or Bread and Butter..?    See while I was also hijacking I ended up bringing us back to topic somehow.... laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Pickle juice is also good for marinating chicken in before you grill it. The chicken grills faster as the pickle brine juice has already begun the cooking process.  laugh

I'm a big pickle fan so we have lots of jars of juice left over.
