I'm looking for somewhere near Belmar to rent a boat to do some crabbing.  Any suggestions?

Nobody ever gives good reports for the Shark River, but you can try. Fisherman's Den rents boats by the day and half day. Good luck.

Was told(last year when i inquired) by the people at Fishermens Den that the Shark river has never been   a good crab river. Good fishing but not crabs.

I do fish it four or five times a year. The inlet is good for fluke, stripers, blackfish and blues. I've only seen greens and whiteleggers in that area. I think the problem is that most of it is just very shallow mud flats with a few channels. The outlets turn fresh real fast as the western border rises up into the Shark River Hills area. Not enough room to get a real good population going. What does get going is most likely fodder for the blackfish and stripers when they visit. Thee are several rentals in the Shrewsbury/Navesink areas which is just another 15-20 minutes for you.

I keep my boat in Belmar.  I saw some guy at the cleaning staion Sunday with a bunch of crabs he was cleaning.  Not sure if they were legal size, they looked a little small to me but shows they are there!  I used to scoop them in the back of the river years ago, you'll see them here and there but not the best choice spot for crabbing.
